Default Mack Mesa Fly-In, Mack, CO

I have to give a shout out for the Mack Mesa Fly-In this past weekend in Colorado. Thanks to our hosts, Ladd, Steve and Lexi for getting this little field of dreams ready for all of us. Words really fail me in trying to describe how much I enjoyed this Fly-In and the Colorado and Utah backcountry that we experienced so I'm getting to work on some videos.

With only 75 hours on my EX this turned out to be a backcountry boot camp for me as we went into some of the most remote and beautiful strips I've ever seen. Each day we flew in groups. First day, there were 5 of us together and second day at one point we were a flight of 8!!

Awesome group of guys. Very helpful. Before heading to every new strip we got a briefing from pilots who had landed there previously. Some of the best in the business including RanchPilot, Mountainmatt and Coyote Crazy Joe "Pops" Dory.

Rick Bosshardt (Cub Crafters rep for AZ) and I left a day early from KFFZ Thursday morning and we beat the weather at both ends, dodging some huge downpours in Phx area the next day and getting into Mack Mesa, CO mid afternoon.

I took a ton of footage and just starting to turn out some vids to share this awesome trip with others. This video takes you from a fuel stop at Holbrook, AZ, and through the western edge of Monument Valley. Weather kept us away from the park but there were still some fantastic rock formations and scenery.

Unbelievably enjoyable to fly through this country. Here's the link to the video posted on YouTube showing off some "Monuments" in northern Arizona.

    Enjoy.

I left Mack Mesa with plenty of time to do the 450 miles home to Mesa, AZ so I pointed the Cub at anything along the way that looked like it was worth exploring. That's the Cubcraftrs "Adventure included" promise, right?

The first was Mount Peale, Utah. It's about 12,000 feet high. Here's a little video I made up of that fly by. Very majestic mountain range that stands well above the terrain all around.

Thanks to Cubcrafters for my extended fuel tanks. Total time in the air, non-stop, with some exploring on the way...Grand Junction to Falcon Field FFZ,...5.8 hours with plenty of fuel still showing up on my visual gauges!!

Wow Paul, keep the pictures and videos coming. I love that part of country; I was raised there, learned to fly there, and do get back when I can.

Good morning all you Cub drivers.
Here's another installment from my latest flying adventure up to Colorado. This video crams our 5 hour trip north into 5 minutes.
I pick up the route departing Holbrook, AZ and end up landing at Mack on Ladd's perfect grass strip.

This video is dedicated to all the heroes who have served this great country, many of whom have paid the ultimate price to preserve our peace and security.

    Thank you!!

I got looking at some old posts and thought I'd add a couple more installments.....links to two more videos that I did up from our time at the Mack Mesa Fly-In last May 2016. Utah and Colorado has so much to explore. Looking forward to heading back up there this year.

These two videos show a little bit of the great 3 days we had together in Colorado as well as an awesome run over to Utah to fly into Mineral Canyon among other spectacular back country strips in UT and CO.

I was looking for the 2016 event and it's not showing up in the Fly Colorado back country site(http://flycolorado.org/index.php/locals-corner/). There are a couple listed but not the Jamboree in May, maybe it just hasn't been listed yet.
