Default Anodizing on Aluminium machined fittings

    Morning all
finally received my CC kit on 23 July, one very happy camper, has to be the best kit I have ever had the opportunity to build, full marks to the Cub Crafter folks.
I have a generalised question re anodizing.I would like to put some form of coating on the bare aluminium components inside the cabin area..pedals,control stick mount and jack shaft ect vs painting as my operations will be close to the coast and want to protect long term against corrosion.I understand the anodizing process but would appreciate feed back from you all with pros and cons or structural concerns or from any body who has gone this route.
I have just made a web site on www.mykitlog.com for my build ,It will come up under builders search of Kenny
Edwards..not a lot of posts yet but look forward to updating photos ect in the coming weeks.

    Thanks all
    Fly safe

I don't think it would be a problem on the rudder pedals but would be careful about doing it on the control stick/torque tube assembly. I would lean more towards a good primer/paint system. Powder coating can also change the strength characteristics of aluminum as well.

I know there have been some accidents with home built helicopters related to anodized control parts as the anodizing hardens the surface and made the parts brittle. Specifically in that case the torque tube for the tail rotor. Safari helicopters I think it was.

    Thanks Pete
i since have done extensive reading and come to the same conclusion so decided to go with the time proven primer /paint system as in previous builds thanks for your input

You might consider Alodine. Its also a surface prep protection, and can be done in ambiant temerature at home. Its mixed from powder and its used in many homebuilts. On rudder pedals it would likely wear off but for other static items its fine. Many other scratch builders will alodine their spars and ribs.

Another interesting coating for the rudder pedals can be found here. Their stuff is tough as nails. This one is air cure. I have used the bake on coaing in a home oven and it works well. Pisses off the wife though...
